    Installed and functioning perfectly

I am in the process of setting up a 50 gallon fresh water aquarium that had been in storage for over a year, and decided to replace my power heads in the process. I had never heard of this brand, but they are virtually identical to the TopFin units I had and went on just as easily. There were no instructions in the box, so I had to scratch my head for a bit on a few issues. First, I always use the little air injector tubes so one must pull off the tiny caps and install the clear air line on each power head. At the other end of the air line is a small knob that one can supposedly turn to vary the air volume. This sorta works, but it's mostly just high/slightly less high. It's okay. Then, there are two fat gray hoses that come with, and frankly I have no idea what setup would require these. My power heads set on top of the riser tubes from my undergravel filter plate, which were cut about 2.5 - 3 inches below the water's surface. These units sat down on those, and stick to the back... 5/5 R. Seehoffer "Author" (Mesa, AZ) - See all my reviews, August 22, 2013

    These little guys work great

0 4/5 J Rickman (Alabama) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Super Aqua Power Head Pump 158GPH (Misc.) I use these in my 125 saltwater tank along with other jets. They work great. My only complaint is that the suction cups come off pretty easy and are a good bit of trouble getting them back in. Especially when your hands are wet. Stil not a huge issue though. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 15, 2013

    POWERFUL AND QUIET

0 5/5 jbkmd (north florida) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Super Aqua Power Head Pump 158GPH (Misc.) Unit installs easily, and works perfectly out of the box, as a powerful, under-gravel-filter power head, in a 20 gallon-long tank, next to the heater to evenly distribute warm water flow. It is perfect flow-rate for a breeding freshwater Angelfish set-up. Will update re durability. Price on Amazon just dropped to $10.99 from $12.99 and I ordered two more, for a 30-gallon salt-water under-gravel filter system with two uplift tubes.5 month update: still working flawlessly 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 26, 2013

0 1/5 rachael - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Marineland Ml90512 Maxi-Jet 1200 , 295/1300GPH (Misc.) I have some old Maxi-jet 1200's...they have white impellers & work wonderfully. I needed to add one more & so I figured I'd stick with what's worked well for me in the past. It seems Marineland has changed their models..the new one has a different impeller (it's purple, so that's how you know when you got one of the new terrible ones). The first one I got, the impellers SHEARED OFF completely within a day. So I exchanged it out for a new one...the impeller on it was wobbly & made so much noise it wasnt worth keeping.I'm so disappointed in these new pumps. It's too bad they couldn't have stuck with their old quality designs. DO NOT BUY. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 5, 2012

0 1/5 Melvina Farley - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Marineland Ml90512 Maxi-Jet 1200 , 295/1300GPH (Misc.) I just purchased a Maxi-Jet 1200 to replace a unit that finally died. I figured I might as welll replace it with the same model as I had not had any problems with the original one. Well I received it today and was excited to install it. Got it all set up and plugged in and sat down on the couch to marvel at the tank. Within 10 minutes the pump stop working. When I went to open the unit I found a propellerless purple impeller (the old one was white). Im pretty disappointed as I thought that Marineland was a name that I could trust...I guess not anymore. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 29, 2012

Awesome powerhead, perfect price, lots of configurability

I needed a pump to use in a sump I was building. Only needed about 100gph of flow going back into the aquarium from the sump. This was perfect, it's actually more than I need which is good.*** FLOW RATINGSIt's rated for 1,300GPH, which is based on open-flow. Meaning just being used as a powerhead to push water around an aquarium. It comes with a screw (propeller) and an enclosure, and it will DEFINITELY move your water around fast. For "pump" mode, it's rated at 295gph open flow. With the fittings I used, the smallest restriction is 3/8". The tubing is 1/2". I'm able to get over 200gph of return flow with this setup, which I have to dial-down using a gate valve in order to maintain my precise needs. Remember, more GPH is BETTER than less, because you can't dial-up the flow.*** FITTINGS AND STUFFThis comes with everything you need for almost any purpose. It has the normal powerhead fittings, as well as a complete screw/cover... 5/5 T. Sessoms - See all my reviews, September 22, 2011

0 5/5 Nate - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hydor Koralia Nano 425 Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPH (Misc.) I have to say that this circulation pump is amazing. Packs a lot of punch for something the size of an egg, and it's small size is what makes it so great. With the magnet base to attach it you can basically mount this thing anywhere in the aquarium. I originally bought it to add to my AquaClear Powerhead 400 for some extra flow but I was so happy with the performance, size, and neat clean look inside the tank that I have decided to retire my old bulky powerhead and replace it by ordering another Koralia Nano 425. I have a 29 gallon BioCube and I believe 2 of them will give the perfect amount of flow for my corals. Very happy with this product and I highly reccomend it. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 14, 2010

0 5/5 JR Dot (Jacksonville AR) - See all my reviews This review is from: Marineland PH0660 Penguin Power Head 660, 170GPH (Misc.) I purchased this to replaced an approx. 6 yr. old Penguin 660.I was so pleased with the old powerhead I wanted to replace with same.I was glad to see the model 660 was still available. The reliability and flexability would be hard to beat, especially at the price. They withstand being cloged, power outage, and being run "dry" during partial water chages. Definately a solid performer. Having tended over 60 aquiriums (salt and fresh)in the past at a local pet store and the personal use at home gives me a good idea of what works and what doesn't. This thing runs like a champ! Functional, flexable, tough and inexpensive. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 8, 2008

    Great water flow and longevity

I've used this pump now for about a year and it still works perfectly. Water circulation is outstanding. Only gripe I would have is that they need to be primed after every water change. For some reason, they hold the air inside the pump preventing water from flowing. Simple remedy is to just turn the unit upside down in the water for a few seconds to let the air out, once the water starts flowing again, just reinsert it back into the filter tube. Works perfect after that. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 22, 2009

    whoa..........

0 4/5 Scotty - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 800 GPH Powerhead Aquarium Pump Wave Maker (Misc.) Ya, it's too much for a 29 gallon. My fish look like they're at an amusement park on a water ride. It was the same price for this one as it was for the one with half the gph, so silly frugal me, I bought this one thinking my tank could handle it. My fish can only swim on one side of the tank now hahahaha. I think what I'm going to do is put this one in my sump and get a smaller one for up top. Whoever said this is good for 50-90 gallon is probably right. I'm like Captain James T Kirk & Mr. Scott on Star Trek, MORE POWER!!! lol This will blow your anemones and corals right off the rock if you're not careful & one is probably enough I think.-------------Edit: I don't like complaining, but I took away 1 star. The only reason I did this is because the cord is the shortest cord of all my devices. It's really short. It's so short, I have to buy an extension cable exclusively for this item. They could have added a few more feet and it would have been "acceptable". 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 20, 2013

0 5/5 Amazon Customer (South Dakota) - See all my reviews This review is from: Cobalt Aquatics Power Head/Pump MJ1200 (Misc.) When the "Maxi Jet" branding went away from the product that made them famous opting instead to pay less for a less quality product Cobalt aquatics picked up the rights to sell the original under the MJXXX moniker. Thus, this is the "original" maxijet, just sold by a different compnay. 0 5/5 Reef Mixer - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hydor Koralia Evolution 750/850 Aquarium Circulation Pump 750-850 GPH (Misc.) I have bought three of these over the past year and have been impressed by all of them. Unless you plan to spend $200-$400 a piece for the eco-tec units, this is a darn good value. They may not have all the bells and whistles like other models, but they are dead quiet, and when I say dead quiet, I mean that with everything else off in my reef tank, I have to put my ear four inches from the water to hear it running. It also provides a broad current, which is desirable, as opposed to a concentrated jet. Is it the absolute best model on the market? No. Is it the best value? In my opinion, yes it is. For anyone on a budget, these are the way to go. Oh, and when you put it on the tank, it stays put! Most models I have seen have had a tendency to "walk" down the glass over time (these do not). - 125 Gallon glass mixed reef tank. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 6, 2011

    A MUST-HAVE for aquariums

This powerhead is a great thing to have for your aquarium if the tank is between 55-90 gallons. It really packs a punch for its size, and has the capacity to move a lot of water fairly quickly. It can also be used in smaller aquariums too, because the waterflow on this powerhead is ADJUSTABLE (a feature that is rarely seen on other powerheads) - it can filter 300 g.p.h. or adjusted to filter only a trickle. So this can be a used in aquariums under 55 gallons too. This also has another unique feature - a REVERSE-FLOW option - so the powerhead can also take water from close to the surface and move it through the gravel in the opposite direction. Whichever method of gravel filtration you prefer, this powerhead can accommodate you.It comes with tubes that provide for the option of additional airation through the spout. Much quieter than Penguin 660

0 4/5 Shawn M Cordy - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: AquaClear Powerhead 20 - 110 V, 127 Gallons per Hour (Misc.) I love this pump so far. The Aquaclear 20 is perfect for a 29 gallon tank. Previous Penguin powerhead was awful. A pet store recommended and ordered the 660 for my 29 gallon tank. It was way too much power with no way to adjust the output. My fish were getting blown around the tank. Even worse was the vibration. Even tried rocks on top of the cover to stop the rattling. Down graded to 4 stars because the bubble valve doesn't adjust to a tiny amount of bubbles without spurting them out off and on again. You either get spurts or a LOT of bubbles. To be fair the Penguin air valve was fancier but didn't work any better. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 13, 2010
