About this book
#1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz brings his fertile imagination and unparalleled storytelling abilities to one of the most timeless—and terrifying—creations in all of fiction: the legend of Frankenstein. In Lost Souls, Koontz puts a singular twist on this classic tale of ambition and science gone wrong and forges a new legend uniquely suited to our times—a story of revenge, redemption, and the razor-thin line that separates humanity from inhumanity as we consider a new invitation to apocalypse.  The work of creation has begun again. Only now things will be different. Victor Leben, once Frankenstein, has not only seen the future—he’s ready to populate it. Using stem cells, “organic” silicon circuitry, and nanotechnology, he will engender a race of superhumans—the perfect melding of flesh and machine. With a powerful, enigmatic backer eager to see his dream come to fruition and a secret location where the enemies of progress can’t find him, Victor is certain that this time, nothing and no one can stop him.It is up to five people to prove him wrong. In their hands rests nothing less than the survival of humanity itself. They are drawn together in different ways, by omens sinister and wondrous, to the same shattering conclusion: Two years after they saw him die, the man they knew as Victor Helios lives on. Detectives Carson O’Connor and Michael Maddison; Victor’s engineered wife, Erika 5, and her companion Jocko; and the original Victor’s first creation, the tormented Deucalion, have all arrived at a small Montana town where their old alliance will be renewed—and tested—by forces from within and without, and where the dangers they face will eclipse any they have yet encountered. Yet in the midst of their peril, love will blossom, and joy, and they will discover sources of strength and perseverance they could not have imagined. They will need all these resources, and more. For a monumental battle is about to commence that will require all their ingenuity and courage, as it defines what we are to be . . . and if we are to be at all. From the Hardcover edition.

So far, this thing works like a DOG!

Granted, I've had this thing for less than a week, but I can't quit raving about it.I got the Dirt Dog for my enclosed patio, which is home to 12 messy caged parakeets and is also, of course, where my 4 cats like to hang out. I chose the Dirt Dog over the Roomba because I thought the sweeper would work better on the unfinished concrete than a vacuum unit, and it was cheaper. I liked the idea of the larger crud-holder than the vacuum, and I thought maybe it would be less tempramental, too.The first time I turned it on, it wandered around exploring---I quickly learned that the fringed cotton rugs would have to go (no biggie, they just trap dirt anyway). I didn't move a lot of furniture---wanted to see how it would get along without much prep work on my part.It quickly became my "Little Buddy" as it got stuck, or wrapped a string around its brushes and gently whimpered "Uh-Oh". I responded like the silly thing was one of my kids: "What's up, Little... 5/5 Janet "intersectionc" (GILROY, CA USA) - See all my reviews, January 28, 2008

Does a great job, when it works...

0 3/5 RapidEye (North Carolina) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: iRobot 110 Dirt Dog Workshop Robot (Kitchen) This did a better job of cleaning than a regular Roomba - did very good on uneven surfaces, excelled on sand and dog hair (much better than the Roomba on sand), and has a big enough bin to hold a decent load.Where I had a problem with it was the 10 beeps - "too long without bumping anything" fault. My shop area is big (60x40) and doesn't have junk laying around for it to run into. Most of the time, the Dirt Dog runs for a few minutes, doesn't bump into anything, then just stops and sits there in the middle of the room beeping, waiting for someone to push the start button again. Pretty frustrating.I would only recommend this if you've got small areas/rooms to clean - probably won't fit the definition of most "shops". 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 10, 2008

    Surpassed my expectations

0 5/5 Amazon shopper "rk4321" (Saratoga, CA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: iRobot 110 Dirt Dog Workshop Robot (Kitchen) I honestly thought this would not be effective at all. I have (had actually) a very dirty smooth garage floor with all kinds of shelves etc. under which I was almost afraid to look. Unleashing the DOG, it filled up with crud quickly, and I emptied several loads per cycle. The DOG kicked up very little dust, and after a few runs the floor looked almost new. There's no vacuum, it's just brooms guiding the stuff into the collection tray. To get this level of clean without moving cars etc out of the way is impressive. Given my low expectations, I was compelled to give a good review to my new friend. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 29, 2007
