    They call it "The Classic"

I bought my aquabot "classic" at BJ's Wholesale Club about 4 years ago. I was under the impression that this unit would be fool-proof, easy to use, a work horse, and cheap to operate.Let's start this review with how it operates first and then get into the maintenance issues towards the end of the review. They're advertising that you simple plug it in and walk away. It cleans the whole pool, the steps, goes around obstacles such as ladders and will not get stuck. I personally found that I had to "baby" this unit. Every hour or so there seemed to be something going on. I found that it did hang on the pool ladder occasionally, so after a few times, I simply started pulling the ladder out to avoid this from happening. No big deal. In 4 years, I must say that I only saw this unit on the steps a few times, but then again, I wasn't watching too much. If I wanted the steps cleaner, I would catch the unit and placed it there physically. Then there's the claim that this unit will vacuum... 5/5 Joseph S. Works fine when it's not broken

0 2/5 historicalfictionfan (Texas) - See all my reviews This review is from: Aquabot AB Aquabot Classic In-Ground Robotic Swimming Pool Cleaner (Lawn & Patio) We've owned this machine since May 2007. It has been sitting in our garage for a year, since the repairs needed (electrical cord, electrical supply box, filter bag, etc.) would cost over $600 including shipping (to New Jersey from Texas). During the first two years the brush, drive track and drive belts have had to be replaced at least once if not more. The filter bag tore apart last year as well. It worked beautifully the first year and pretty well the second, but replacing the belts, track and brush was somewhat difficult. Also, I do not know if this is typical for robotic pool cleaners, but after being in the pool and filled with water, it was pretty heavy and somewhat difficult for me to lift out of the pool. I cannot recommend this machine due to the high repair costs. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 21, 2010

Very good cleaner, It works well, poolman review

Customer Video Review Length:: 4:40 MinsFirst, you must have a separate pump plumbed in for the Polaris cleaner or you cannot install this cleaner. It needs it's own pump to work off the pressure (return) side of the pool verse the suction (skimmer/side port) side.I have several customers with these cleaners installed (Two with Polaris 180 models which means that after 15 years they are still working fine) and all work off the same principal. The Polaris pump sends high pressure to the line the Polaris is attached to spinning the wheels and moving the cleaner. Every few minutes the Backup valve activates and reverses the cleaner (prevents it from getting stuck in one area). These cleaners work well if they are set up correctly. Here are some troubleshooting tips:Hose length is important. Too much hose and the cleaner will not work properly. The Back-up Valve must be installed 14-20 inches from the cleaner and the water opening (where water shoots out... 4/5 Mrdgvb1 "Dave" (California) - See all my reviews, February 4, 2012

Experience of 280 as compared with 380 and 3900

I have a 22,000 gal pool and have owned the 280, 380 and now the 3900 over the past 10 years. The 280 lasted 7+ years; I replaced it with the 380 and after 1-1/2 years of trying to get it to clean as good as the previous cleaner, I finally gave up and turned to the 3900. The 3900 has been in service now for about 1-1/2 years. The 3900 is a decent cleaner but the thing is like the quintessential Ferrari, runs great while it is running, but requires constant maintenance and tuning. Looking back, nothing cleans like that ole' 280. I recently spoke with 1) my original pool designer, 2) a neighbor who is an award winning pool designer, and 3) an experienced pool installer/maintainer that I have come to trust implicitly (I have worked with several, this guy is on top of his game). All three aforementioned sources wholeheartedly agreed that the 280 just cannot be beat by any of today's available cleaners. The simplicity and cleaning efficiency are unmatched. 0 5/5 Swimdad "swimdad" (San Jose, CA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) After receiveing the $85 quote to repair my aging Polaris cleaner I knew it was time for a new one. With all the incentives on the 380 or 3900 I was going to go with the 380 which was actually cheaper (after incentives) than the 280 but I started asking around - mostly pool professionals - and all (8 for 8) recommeneded the 280 even if the price were higher. We are happy with the purchase and I was able to save over $100 by buying off Amazon vs. any retail store. There were a few other online sites where it was $15-$20 cheaper but didn't have the reputation or # of stars. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 20, 2009

    Really does the job

If you read my review of the Aqua Turbo, you will see that it started out great and ended up being really poor. The cost of repair is obscene. So, here we start out a new review, after the Aqua Turbo burned out it's second motor, a $700+ repair with shipping costs. The Triton runs circles around the Aqua Turbo, when it comes to cleaning. With the Aqua Turbo, I got about 2/3 cleaning of our kidney shaped pool. The Triton gets all but one two foot corner. That I clean using the remote control with one sweep. And, it only runs for a couple of hours to accomplish a complete cleaning. i ran the Aqua Turbo for eight hours to accomplish the 2/3 cleaning. The only downside that I have found is that the filters that come with the unit have a very small surface area. They function well, but are completely clogged after just one run. They have to be cleaned every day, and this is before there is any pollen being dropped into the pool. I have ordered the bag... 5/5 Westcliffe, CO here (Westcliffe, CO) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Love it!

0 5/5 Gregory Ables - See all my reviews This review is from: Dolphin 99996356 Dolphin Triton Robotic Pool Cleaner with Caddy Swivel Cable, 60-Feet (Lawn & Patio) The cleaner just came in today and I used it for the first time. Initial assessment is..."this thing is awesome". My pool was extremely dirty from three weeks of on and off bad weather and no cleaning. This little jewel had it clean in about 2.5 hours and did not get hung up at all, unlike my Polaris 360. I see a summer of fun in my future instead of a summer of working on the pool. So far, I highly recommend it. I did get the remote and I recommend it as well. I was able to manually direct the cleaner to the shallow end of the pool and just reach in and grab the handle to get the cleaner out of the pool. No pulling on cords. If my review changes I will post a follow-up. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 31, 2014

    This vacuum is amazing!!!!

UPDATE 08/11/2014: I am knocking off one star because the fins on the wheels eventually crack where they are connected to the circular portion of the wheel itself which causes the bottom of the unit to sit too low because of the semi-collapsed fins and it therefore scratches the liner. You can see the scratch lines on the bottom of the unit as well. I ordered a new set of 4 for about $40 and all is well again, but, there are visible wheel marks and scratches to the paint of the liner. I don't think it tore anything or made any holes but this is a warning that you should inspect the pool floor at the end of every couple of runs. Don't leave it in after it finishes either because the chlorine in the pool will dissolve the wheel fins even faster. Had mine almost 2 seasons before this began. FWIW - the scratches for me are camoflaged by the design and color of the liner so no harm done for me anyway.I have never had any type of automatic pool vacuum before so after... 4/5 W. Works with some issues

This cleaner is easy to use and clean, and I've decided to stick with it though I have the following problems:Many times the cleaner may be found "belly up" at the bottom of the pool, or flipped sideways. As you don't track the whole operation unless you are spending an hour or more, you are left wondering when it actually stopped cleaning. To get better coverage of my pool (which has no straight edges) I have had to try multiple locations to start the cleaner.I haven't really seen it climb walls any higher than a little bit more than its own body width. And it cannot clean the steps (does not climb). The pool looks relatively okay after cleaning so I decided to keep this product. Can't ask for perfection from a robotic cleaner at that price tag I guess...========================After 1 year of operation, I am not happy with this product. Robot takes the full 2 hrs to get all of the pool but it does cover the whole pool (cept stairs).I had have it for about 5 weeks and just drop it in the morning - by 10am the pool is perfect. It hasn't gotten hung up on the drain cover or turtled yet. The filter is easy to remove and hose off. I haven't brought out the old vacuum hose and head yet since the day we got it! It supposed to only go up a 60 degree slope, but i have seen it go up to the water line often. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 15, 2011
