  Does what I want a vacuum to do

  Although most the reviews are for the 4870GZ and I bought the 4870MZ, I suspect the machines are basically the same so I won't repeat what others have already said about it except to say this is a solid machine with excellent suction and it did a great job on my carpets, both deep cleaning and returning the nap to a plush feel.I'm writing to say that, contrary to many reviews, the Power Paw does in fact attach to the vacuum. At least mine does. It comes with a clear plastic cover that attaches to the vacuum just below the top D-handle. If you look closely you'll find the mating point. You then simply clip the paw into the cover and it stores on the handle.Also, contrary to some reviews, the bare floor setting works fine. You just need to press the tab hard until you hear a click and it engages. The brush is then disabled for bare floor vacuuming.I really wanted to justify a Dyson but at 1/3 the price, this machine is all that I need. The power paw attachment is great for vacuuming the stairs - we have two sets and it is easier to use the power paw than balance my canister vac on the stairs.My 12 yr old Sharp upright gave up the ghost so I needed a new upright for upstairs. I read a lot of reviews here and at e-pinions and decided on this Eureka. First I will say it is very important to read all of the manual, because it actually addresses some of the issues people have with this vacuum, such as: (1) this machine is no heavier than my old one, but people complain it is heavy and hard to maneuver - the maneuverability and "heaviness" of it are greatly improved if one selects the proper brush height. Set it too low and yes, you will be struggling to pull this vacuum back toward you.   My wife and I have been around the block a time or two and, as with many of you, have been through our share of vacuums over the years. I'm here to tell you this one works. Stay away from the TV "infomercials" plugging no-name vacs and making outlandish claims. Remember the old saying, "if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is". Trust the "trusted" names. Eureka has been around a long time. We checked Consumer Reports before investing in a new upright vac. They listed 3 as being excellent buys. 2 were Kenmores and the third was the Eureka 4870 series. The letters at the end of the model don't mean much (the MZ has the "power brush", but the 4870 is important. The ratings of all 3 vacs were basically the same, but the Eureka was half the price. The sucking power is incredible. It's not the quietest unit in the world, but I'll gladly trade that for the job it does.   Vac Hose

  This is my third vac hose in four years. They are somewhat cheaply made and, I suspect, a product of China. The wiring at the connection points seems to unravel and peel. The plastic tip chips rather easily. What is redeeming about this product is the price. Inexpensive to replace evey 14 months or so.   This is a generic substitute for the Eureka HF2 Filter

  When I purchased this item, I thought it would be a Eureka brand filter, since it says "by Eureka". I guess the word "replacement" is supposed to indicate that it's a generic but I think it's pretty misleading.   While this is, indeed, a HEPA filter and fits my vacuum, it is NOT Eureka's HF2 filter. The HF2 has seven rows of louvres, but the one they sent has only four. The rear of the HF2 is covered by a finer, single-layer filter missing from what they sent. The plain HEPA will work but does not prevent the finest dust in the air.   We have (and love) our Eureka 4870 vacuum, and want it to last. A kit like this is perfect. In particular, you need to have at least one spare belt on hand - when your belt starts to stretch or break, you'll wish you had a new one, and they're not easy to find in stores. The rest of the stuff is great and necessary, and the combined price is much better than buying the products separately.All of these products are Eureka "style" but not made by Eureka, but as far as I can tell, they're as good as the Eureka products, and I was glad to get them.   This package is a fantastic deal for the price! I bought my Eureka Smart Vac a little over a year ago and at that time I bought a supply of bags. Recently, I came on Amazon to order more (I can't get them in my area), I found this GREAT deal for the bags, HEPA filter, belt, and motor filter and realized that I could get ALL of these delivered for LESS than the cost of a few bags of the brand name! The bags are identical to the Eureka bags, both in size and quality, and the HEPA filter is exactly the same as the Eureka (whick retails for about $15.00 by itself).It's ironic that a few days after this package arrived, my youngest son broke the belt vacuuming a rug!   The HEPA filter is NOT EUREKA AS ADVERTISED, but EnviroCare. The motor filters are half the thickness of the one I have in the vacuum now. I don't know what brand they are, but they were made in China. The bags are EnviroCare as well. At least the belt is Eureka.   The Belt Will Work for a Long Time If Properly Adjusted

  What can one say about a belt; it either works or it doesn't.I've noticed complaints about the belt breaking frequently on the Eureka 4870. I think that is due in large part to the manual operation of the height adjustment.The height should be adjusted to the highest level that actually works on the carpet being vacuumed. If it is adjusted too low, the resistance from the carpet versus the powerful motor on the 4870 stresses the belt too much and it breaks.I've used the same belt on my 4870 for well over two years and it seems to be as good as new. I have a fairly thick carpet and adjust the height to the next to the highest position for most of the carpeted areas of the house. We have some rugs and other carpeted areas where I need to drop the height down, but usually the third level down from the highest works well on those.   Surprised how easy it is to break a belt

  I use my vacuum most commonly on a room that has indoor/outdoor carpet. So the height adjustment is one or two notches away from bare floor. With this adjustment the very first time I used the vacuum I broke a belt!!! I believe it resulted from putting the vacuum back in the upright locked position while the vacuum was still on and the brush was still spinning. Doing this seems to put a great amount of stress on the brush spinning process. Therefore causing the belt to snap!I would suggest ALWAYS turning the vacuum off before putting it in the upright locked position. Just in case I forget, I bought two more belts! 3/5 Michael R.   We had just completed a major remodel and there was post-construction dust everywhere. The drywall dust was very fine and the name brand bags I had been using weren't able to pick it up effectively, but these were. We have hardwood and tile floors with area rugs in several rooms. In addition we have two dogs and there is dog hair everywhere, always. (!) These bags fit (I have The Boss) and perform well at an excellent price. In my house, that makes them a keeper.   Vacuum Bags or MICRO FILTRATION VACUUM BAGS

  I guess I am the first person to rate these vacuum cleaner bags, and so here goes. I bought them almost 2 years ago, and they have lasted until now, 9 bags, and I have a dog. They don't cause any dust when you pull them out and dispose of them in a garbage sack. And they keep the dust from flying all over the home when vacuuming. I have allergies, especially dust mites, and haven't had any problems using these bags in my new Eureka vacuum cleaner. Try them because I think you will like them, like I did.   It's hard to get excited about vacuum bags, but these work fine.
