About this book
This second book in the Stem Cell Repair and Regeneration series provides a deeper exploration of the therapeutic potential of undifferentiated human stem cells. Regenerative medicine is an extremely fast-moving field which is evolving from the initial days of hype and excitement to a more realistic appraisal of the role of stem cells in the treatment of degenerative disorders. The series aims to keep abreast of these changes by combining new knowledge in stem cell biology and therapeutic applications. The current volume contains papers by the field's leading scientists and explores the current knowledge on cell therapy for different diseases and injured organs, including diabetes, liver and heart disease.

    Dyson Defect, Not Switch

I was having problems like many with my Dyson On & Off Switch. Many times I would push it , it would not stay on and I would have to push it numerous times to keep it running until I had to keep it pressed. Thinking like most I thought it was the switch so I opened it up and checked the switch out with my finger several times. I also noticed its set in between two small fingers. I did not notice how it was sitting when I opened it but when I tried the switch it worked each time using my finger, so after seeing how it sits in place I thought it may have slipped between the two fingers making the top of the switch lower causing it to malfunction as it was doing. I set it back on top of the two fingers, put it back together and its been working fine. My guess is most people are replacing this switch and not testing it and by doing this, only repositioning the new switch back on top of the two small fingers that hold it, and of course it works. I see this really being a factory defect... 1/5 Fight Back - See all my reviews This review is from: Dyson DC14 and DC07 Switch Assembly Vacuum cleaner replacement part / spare I was having problems like many with my Dyson On & Off Switch. Not as hard as it seems

After 5 years of good service, my DC07 brush just stopped spinning. At first, I thought, no problem, just buy a new belt. Not with the Dyson. After a lot of research, when I found that you had to replace this clutch assembly, I seriously thought about just buying a new vac, but figured - wth - for (...) or so I'll give it a shot. There is a beautiful step-by-step instruction procedure on an Internet site which specializes in giving repair advice on Dyson vacs. The whole process took about 40 minutes, not counting the time I needed to go out and get a T-15 Torx screwdriver, which is absolutely essential to the process (make sure you have one of these before you start. Just be patient, follow the instructions, and you can do it.My problem was caused by accumulated cat hair which the person (unnamed) who used the Dyson didn't take the time to simply clean out of the brushbar after each use. This built-up mess eventually causes the brush to be harder to turn, which heats... 5/5 EasyWay - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Crazy Ratchet Noise from Your Vacuum Cleaner - Here's the part you need.

This is the part that goes out on Dyson vacuum cleaners, at least the DC07 and DC14 models. When the vacuum cleaner starts making a really loud ratcheting noise on the carpet setting, unplug the vacuum, flip it over, look at the beater bar (there are three quarter turn screws at the bottom of the beater bar cover), and remove the balled up hair string, and other wonderful things. If the vacuum still makes the awful ratcheting sound, then it's time for a new clutch. This is the part. There is a fantastic ten minute video that shows exactly how to replace this part. When you get to YouTube enter this in the search field: Replace Dyson Clutch & Belts DC04. Watch the video, if you think you can do the job, and then order the part. If it looks too complicated, take your vacuum down to the repair shop and pay them to do the job. This is not a very difficult job; most people that are pretty handy could do this repair. There is no need to purchase the... 5/5 Daniel G. Clutch

Needed to replace the old clutch because hair & lint bunged up one end of the brush and made it hard to turn, which caused the old clutch to burn out. From what I've read, the clutches seem to be a common replacement item for these otherwise excellent vacuums (hence deducting a star from the rating). It comes exactly as pictured, with new belts and all. There is no reason to get the belts Amazon suggests in the "Frequently bought together" panel.Replacing the clutch is straight forward if you understand how to take the cleaner apart, which is not obvious. I found a couple videos on You Tube that walk you through the process. The only tricky part is getting the new belt around the brush bar. Dyson apparently makes a tool for this, but if you have a helper (and some patience) it can be done with a long screwdriver to stretch the belt while the other works the brush in.Also, the repair videos recommend a Torx T15 screwdriver to remove the screws for the... 4/5 ccmom - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This vaccum sucks! And I mean that in a good way.

Strengths:1. Best suction even among other Dyson models due to new Level 3 Root Cyclone.2. Excellent build quality. Each piece is not an after-thought.3. Best design - shape, color, material and operation.Weaknesses:1. Price - but you do pay for the technology it has to offer.2. Heavy!3. The cones gets clogged from fine dirt in time.Summary: This is arguably one of the best "bagless" household vacuum cleaners money can buy. Dyson's root cyclone technology really does perform. And this latest Level 3 Root Cyclone trumps even its other models. If you're serious about having a real clean environment, this is THE product to buy. I just moved into an apartment a month ago and they replaced the carpets in most of the area and steam cleaned the others that they deemed need not be replaced. I used the vacuum in both and I can tell you that steam cleaning old carpets may get rid of surface dirt and stains, but Dyson is your... 4/5 R. Dyson Vac - incredible!!

0 5/5 Abapper "Abapper" (san antonio, TX USA) - See all my reviews Bought a refurb model here on Amazon after hearing so many good things about Dyson. We have 2 dogs, German Shepherd & a Chow. Needless to say, they leave a lot of hair all over the place. We had 2 different vacuums when we bought the Dyson and neither came close to doing what the Dyson can do.The first day we tried it out on an area rug - it literally picked up a canister FULL of hair that our other vacs missed earlier that day!Pros: Quieter than most other vacs, accessories snap in tight, amazing suction power, long power cord.Cons: hose wand can be unwieldy.Would love to see an automatic retractable cord.Overall, my wife and I are extremely happy with this purchase. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 22, 2004

    Outstanding!

Once in a great while a company gets it right. They make a tool that transforms a task into something you actually WANT to do.Delta's Unisaw, Stihl Chainsaw, All-clad pans and now Dyson DC 17 vacuum are among those few.Until yesterday, I figured all vacuums were more-or-less an equal pain. After all, the Bissell (junk) we bought had the same 12 amp, bagless design as the Dyson. I figured "How different could they be?" ( Answer -- LOTS!)I bought the DC 14 "Animal" yesterday, not realizing there were _2_ Dyson "Animals". (I should have paid closer attention and also realized Bed/Bath/Beyond and Linens-n-Things carried out-of-date merchandise. They neither one can even get the DC17. )The DC14 was a good machine. The finest vacuum I had ever used.As I was about to write my Amazon view (which I should do more often - thanks to all you who take your time to do), when I discovered there was a newer, better,... 5/5 James W. Good as new

The cord on my old DC07 wore out at the point where it was wound around the top hook. This replacement worked great if you are handy and willing to do a little work. It took me about 15 minutes to replace. You will need a Torx T10 screw driver to remove the plate covering the switch and some needle nose pliers to remove and install the clear plastic clips that protect the electrical fastners. The wires are color coded white and black so you can't mess it up. Unscrew the plate with the Torx screw driver. Mark the cord where it enters the boot. Remove the old cord and keep the clips and the rubber boot from the cord. Thread the new cord through the boot to the same length as the mark from the old cord. Put the boot back into the groove, then thread the new cord around the retaining screw in the channel. Using the old clear protective covers, connect the new cord to the white and black terminals on the switch. I plugged the vacuum in and tested the switch before putting it back... 4/5 Kevin (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Screamin' Yellow Machine

This is one powerful vacuum. I researched it on the internet (Dyson has a great web site) and read about it in a couple of magazines. I was impressed and decided to try it. After using it in my country home I can say it's close to, but not, alas, perfect for my needs. I have a mixture of floor surfaces; hard wood, linoleum, tile, wall to wall carpet and LOTS of area rugs. And I have plenty of dirt, pets and people running through the house in all seasons. The Dyson is great on everything EXCEPT the area rugs, which it has a tendency to try to gobble up... The suction power is irrefutable and I will never look at my (or anyone else's) carpets the same way again. I pulled 3 cannisters of dirt, hair and sand out of my 8' x 11' area rug with the first use of the Dyson after a recent run over the same rug with my old vacuum! Unfortunately, the Dyson also tried to eat the area rug and made a horrible sound while doing so. After a toll free call to Dyson's service center (at 5:30... 4/5 P. M. Good machine with limitations - and some IMPORTANT user-maintenance instructions.

We bought the Dyson DC07 in Dec. of 2002, and it gets used for approximately 1 hour x twice a week on carpet. Our unit is out of warranty. In the vacuum cleaner market that, in our opinion, is dominated by poor product design, plastic parts that break easily, motors that burn out, belts that stretch and break, expensive bags that fill up virtually instantly, and a very short useful life, our Dyson has acquitted itself rather well. Many of the other favorable comments about this Dyson apply and will not be repeated here.We would add that Dyson has good telephone customer service as well as an on-line diagnostic guide. We note the following negatives:- The "off the floor" hose suction is not as strong and is much more awkward than with a "tank type - non upright" cleaner. If you are doing mostly off the floor cleaning, probably no upright is recommended.-While it is NOT in the instructions, customer service will tell... 4/5 John Robertson (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews, August 19, 2006

So you wanna buy a Dyson...

I used to volunteer with the local Police department and soon became familiar with an interesting trait of unfortunate victims of crime: Ten people might witness a bank robbery and give stunningly different descriptions of those involved. One would see a red car, another a white car. One would see 3 people, another 1 person. So it is with vacuum cleaners.Like many readers, I read through every Amazon review before purchasing the 'yellow' Dyson DC07. I resisted writing a review until now, using the vacuum approximately twice per week for the last 6 months. The summary? The Dyson's ability to pull dirt and hair from carpets and floors is simply stunning, something you have to try to believe. I have found some drawbacks, and if you've read other reviews, they may look familiar. Some of my negatives:When trying to clean under the 4 inch overhang on my floor-level kitchen cabinets or furniture, the DC07 does not reach under it very well. This... 5/5 0, October 13, 2004
