DIRT DEVIL Featherlite Vision 088600 Very good overall. But Dirt Devil has been among the more repair-prone brands of uprights, based on our most recent reader survey. Less prone to tipping when hose is fully extended. Telescopic wand.

    Terrific Performer and Outstanding Value

Approximately three years ago, my $200 Eureka vac finally stopped working and I purchased the featherlite to replace it. At that time I lived in a 1,400 sf apartment. Now I live in a 2,500 sft home. For the past three years, this vacuum has served our family well. Pros:1. Inexpensive. $40 or less in most places.2. It picks up dirt, fuzz (and legos) as well or better than any other vacuum I've ever used. Really. Just change the bag when it gets full.3. Light weight. It's very easy to manuver and my younger kids can use it.4. Simplicity. This is a basic vac. It's easy to change the bag, wind the cord, and pull hair/crud out of the roller if necessary.5. It's got a bag. This is a personal preference, but every bagless upright I've ever used creates a small dust storm when you empty it. The bag system on this one works well.Cons:1. I don't expect it to go past 5 years. works fine after a year

0 4/5 R. Wys "R. Wys" (MN, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagged Upright Vacuum, M085590RED (Kitchen) I was suprised to see that some of the other reviews portray this vacuum as useless. I bought mine from Target a year ago and it works wonderfully. Only complaints is that it's still pretty 'clunky' to carry around and that when you want to use the attachments it's hard to get the hose out. I've gone through a Shark brand vacuum that broke after 2 uses and an Orek XL that ate it's own cord but couldn't pick up Cheerios that my daughter spilled. I've had bad luck with vacuums but this one is doing just fine after 200+ uses.Feb. 2013: I just upgraded to a Bissel Trilogy Pet but my Dirt Devil still works wonderfully! Do not buy the canister version of this vacuum though! I've never had to replace the belt on it yet and I did replace the hose two months ago because my husband broke it where it attached to the base but it was a cheap fix. I still say this product is worth purchasing. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 19, 2008

Can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch but breaks

UPDATE After about 5 Months the part of the hose that connects to the motor ( see my pic) has had a piece break off that locks on the little peg; and now the end of the hose has a vertical crack in it where the attachments would connect. My concern all along after assembling this was the durability factor.I have a rainbow canister that I have decided to retire do the intensive assembly required for its operation. You have to fill the tank with water then place it it's caddy, place the motor on top of tank and then attach the hose from the power head to the motor. Then do the reverse to empty the water from the tank. So I decided to get an upright that you can just plug in and go.I'm not sold yet on the bag less uprights so I decided to go with the old tried and true one's with a bag. I first looked at the Eureka Upright Vacuum Cleaner 1934A, had an impressive review but no attachments and only a 5 amp motor and a little more than I wanted to spend... 1/5 aman4allseasons "Jerry B" (Washington) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagged Upright Vacuum, M085590RED (Kitchen) UPDATE After about 5 Months the part of the hose that connects to the motor ( see my pic) has had a piece break off that locks on the little peg; and now the end of the hose has a vertical crack in it where the attachments would connect. Awesome!

Is it too much to ask for a vacuum to pick up stray pieces of paper, not to spit dirt out the back, and be light? This one fits the bill. I owned a dirt devil featherlite 9 years ago but after my husband touched it after 8 years, it didn't suck much anymore. Up till then it worked great. So I bought a vacuum that cost triple this vacuum thinking more expensive so it should be a wonderful vacuum. NOT! It didn't work well at all. Wouldn't pick up papers and kept shredding paper over the carpet, wouldn't suck it up. It also kept spitting dirt out the back on hard floors, or at least every direction except up the canister. I had a herniated disc for 10 months, every time I used the expensive vacuum, it was so heavy and bulky it kept throwing my back out more and kept me down for a week in pain. I was so happy to see kohl's had the new improved version of my old featherlite. It works as good if not better than the last one I had. It sucks really well. I have fun watching the dirt starting... 5/5 Jen (Ohio) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Featherlite Ultra Compact Bagless Upright Vacuum, UD40285 (Kitchen) Is it too much to ask for a vacuum to pick up stray pieces of paper, not to spit dirt out the back, and be light? Well worth the money! Best in price range!

OK, first off one of the top reviews says it takes 13 steps to empty. Mine doesn't, it takes TWO! One push the button on top to release the cansiter, two press the button on the side of the canister to open the bottom (over your trash can of course :P). I added pictures illustrating these buttons, plus a picture of all of the dirt! Also, do not expect Dyson fit and finish out of this vacuum. Its in a COMPLETELY different price category. That being said, what it excels at it is being the best vacuum cleaner I have used short of a Dyson. I'll list the pros and cons of this vacuum now; then since the devil (sorry for the pun) is in the details I'll expound on them a bit afterwards.Pros:Suction! This is a great product!

I wanted to write this review because there were somenegative reviews which almost caused me not to buy it, but Ibought it anyway. I decided to wait a few months (4),though, to make sure I really liked it.I do.The negative comments were: *********************1) short cord and owners manual says don't use an extensioncord.2) I have COPD, and somebody said emptying the canisterraised a huge cloud of dust.3) Others stated that the exhaust was on the front of themachine and would blow around the debris you were trying topick up, especially on hardwood floors. ***********************1) This sounded weird, so I got out my calculator. A 25 foot14 gauge extension cord added to the 19 foot cord on themachine gives you a 44 foot cord - 88 feet of copper tocomplete the circuit. This gives you - with the 7 amp motor- a voltage drop of... 5/5 M. Johnston "Mike J" (Colorado) - See all my reviews, December 17, 2011

0 5/5 AKFlorida - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Extreme Cyclonic Quick Vac Bagless Upright Vacuum, UD20010 (Kitchen) My father bought me this vacuum for Christmas since my old hand me down one finally died. I opened the package and was worried that it wouldn't be very strong considering it's size... WOW. I have a cat and a dog and this thing picked up every single hair in the house. I was shocked to see how much dirt had been in my carpet all this time... and more shocked that this lightweight vac picked it all up. It's great for the stairs too because it's so light. I would recommend this to everyone. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 1, 2011

    My Mini Dyson.

First let me tell you that I just sold my new dyson, I had it for a year and loved it but I am moving from a large 4 bedroom home next summer. I wanted something cheap and easy to use but will clean up after my 3 cats, who shed like a beast.Iread al the reviews and for under 50 bucks I would give it a try, it arrived on time and the box was very light opened the box and love the color red, it's my favorite, put the handle on and off we go, the vacuum is very good at picking up everything a bit loud but wow it got two weeks worth of cat hair and stuff off the floor in matter of minutes I was really impressed. You really have to try it to believe it...Take it from a dyson snob......Update: this vacuume is incredible and is light and easy, I will be keeping this for a very long time.Another update: used it first time yesterday in my driveway to clean my car, very light, fantastic product.I had a chance to get a dyson again using... 5/5 GadgetGirl - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) The Breeze is a mixe bag(less) of good and not so good

First off, how do you say "mixed bag" about a "bagless" vacuum? Well however you say it, here is my opinion on it - the good and the bad. I purchased mine as a second vac, and despite past nightmares with entry bagless vacs, wanted something I could empty after each occasional use vs. store away with a partly filled bag.On the pro side: This unit is VERY light in weight. Great for those with arthritis or anyone who is carrying a vacuum up and down stairs. What is not lightweight is the power - it definitely has good suction. I also like the slightly narrower width whem compared to most other vacuums - 13" wide vs the more common 15" wide may not seem like much, but this fits in narrow places yet is still a full power vac.On the neutral side: Emptying is easy, but like most entry level bagless units, the filter is a mess to deal with. Best bet is, from time, use a second vac to clean this units filter, or used canned air outside upwind.Attachments are okay... 3/5 A. Maier (Fort Wayne, IN) - See all my reviews, May 11, 2008

Built Like a Tank, Sounds Like One, Too!

I've had my Dirt Devil Breeze for (3?+) years now (Obviously an older version but based on what I see from the picture nothing had changed much.) Bought this as replacement to a previous vacuum cleaner which had the "fan" (not sure if this is the correct word for it) that was in the path of the dirt (I believe that was a hoover). I used it to pick up some solid object and got stuck in the "fan" which caused it to break on me. The design of the breeze was a lot better since the filter catches objects before it gets to the suction mechanism. Overall, does what its supposed to do.Cons:- The exhaust out in front was definitely a design "duh". But you wouldn't realize it till you use it for picking up light material (e.g. small bird feathers).- Is there an easier way to switch from bottom suction to the onboard tools?- Emptying the canister is definitely a hassle (but sames me money in the long run)- *LOUD* And I cannot say this enough.
