    Shockingly light!

0 5/5 eV - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Dirt Devil Featherlite Cyclonic Bagless Canister Vacuum, SD40100 (Kitchen) I bought this vacuum cleaner as I had previously had a simmilar model in Germany. I was shocked by how light it is and was not confident in how well it would clean, but it does surprisingly well and after a few days' use, I trust it to last.It sucks well, has small but effective wheels on the sides of the hose at the head which ensure it won't scratch hard flooring and the rubber-ish surface on the two big wheels mean that it moves reliably over my varnished hardwood floor without marking. The little independently rotating wheel underneath, which enables it to move freely in all directions, broke off from my original model in Germany - that does not appear to be any more sturdy on this version, but I'll add a comment later if it happens.Overall, this vacuum cleaner is light and effective, moves well across my hard flooring without marking, and appears to be equally good at cleaning my rugs! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 11, 2012

    Wonderful for carpets

0 5/5 AG "ageorge1" - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Dirt Devil Featherlite Cyclonic Bagless Canister Vacuum, SD40100 (Kitchen) I researched a lot and ended up buying this one. I have a fully carpeted floor but I did not want to buy the regular huge upright vaccum cleaner that is difficult to maintain, is noisy and is heavy. I am impressed by how compact this one is, and it fits my needs perfectly. At one press, the wire retracts. The height adjuster adds to convenience. The price is right and it cleans perfectly. Highly recommend this product. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 5, 2012

    Terrific Performer and Outstanding Value

Approximately three years ago, my $200 Eureka vac finally stopped working and I purchased the featherlite to replace it. At that time I lived in a 1,400 sf apartment. Now I live in a 2,500 sft home. For the past three years, this vacuum has served our family well. Pros:1. Inexpensive. $40 or less in most places.2. It picks up dirt, fuzz (and legos) as well or better than any other vacuum I've ever used. Really. Just change the bag when it gets full.3. Light weight. It's very easy to manuver and my younger kids can use it.4. Simplicity. This is a basic vac. It's easy to change the bag, wind the cord, and pull hair/crud out of the roller if necessary.5. It's got a bag. This is a personal preference, but every bagless upright I've ever used creates a small dust storm when you empty it. The bag system on this one works well.Cons:1. works fine after a year

0 4/5 R. Wys "R. Wys" (MN, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagged Upright Vacuum, M085590RED (Kitchen) I was suprised to see that some of the other reviews portray this vacuum as useless. I bought mine from Target a year ago and it works wonderfully. Only complaints is that it's still pretty 'clunky' to carry around and that when you want to use the attachments it's hard to get the hose out. I've gone through a Shark brand vacuum that broke after 2 uses and an Orek XL that ate it's own cord but couldn't pick up Cheerios that my daughter spilled. I've had bad luck with vacuums but this one is doing just fine after 200+ uses.Feb. 2013: I just upgraded to a Bissel Trilogy Pet but my Dirt Devil still works wonderfully! Do not buy the canister version of this vacuum though! I've never had to replace the belt on it yet and I did replace the hose two months ago because my husband broke it where it attached to the base but it was a cheap fix. I still say this product is worth purchasing. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 19, 2008

Can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch but breaks

UPDATE After about 5 Months the part of the hose that connects to the motor ( see my pic) has had a piece break off that locks on the little peg; and now the end of the hose has a vertical crack in it where the attachments would connect. My concern all along after assembling this was the durability factor.I have a rainbow canister that I have decided to retire do the intensive assembly required for its operation. You have to fill the tank with water then place it it's caddy, place the motor on top of tank and then attach the hose from the power head to the motor. Then do the reverse to empty the water from the tank. So I decided to get an upright that you can just plug in and go.I'm not sold yet on the bag less uprights so I decided to go with the old tried and true one's with a bag. I first looked at the Eureka Upright Vacuum Cleaner 1934A, had an impressive review but no attachments and only a 5 amp motor and a little more than I wanted to spend... 1/5 aman4allseasons "Jerry B" (Washington) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagged Upright Vacuum, M085590RED (Kitchen) UPDATE After about 5 Months the part of the hose that connects to the motor ( see my pic) has had a piece break off that locks on the little peg; and now the end of the hose has a vertical crack in it where the attachments would connect. This is a great product!

I wanted to write this review because there were somenegative reviews which almost caused me not to buy it, but Ibought it anyway. I decided to wait a few months (4),though, to make sure I really liked it.I do.The negative comments were: *********************1) short cord and owners manual says don't use an extensioncord.2) I have COPD, and somebody said emptying the canisterraised a huge cloud of dust.3) Others stated that the exhaust was on the front of themachine and would blow around the debris you were trying topick up, especially on hardwood floors. ***********************1) This sounded weird, so I got out my calculator. A 25 foot14 gauge extension cord added to the 19 foot cord on themachine gives you a 44 foot cord - 88 feet of copper tocomplete the circuit. This gives you - with the 7 amp motor- a voltage drop of... 5/5 M. Johnston "Mike J" (Colorado) - See all my reviews, December 17, 2011

I opened the package and was worried that it wouldn't be very strong considering it's size... WOW. I have a cat and a dog and this thing picked up every single hair in the house. I was shocked to see how much dirt had been in my carpet all this time... and more shocked that this lightweight vac picked it all up. It's great for the stairs too because it's so light. I would recommend this to everyone. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 1, 2011

    My Mini Dyson.

First let me tell you that I just sold my new dyson, I had it for a year and loved it but I am moving from a large 4 bedroom home next summer. I wanted something cheap and easy to use but will clean up after my 3 cats, who shed like a beast.Iread al the reviews and for under 50 bucks I would give it a try, it arrived on time and the box was very light opened the box and love the color red, it's my favorite, put the handle on and off we go, the vacuum is very good at picking up everything a bit loud but wow it got two weeks worth of cat hair and stuff off the floor in matter of minutes I was really impressed. You really have to try it to believe it...Take it from a dyson snob......Update: this vacuume is incredible and is light and easy, I will be keeping this for a very long time.Another update: used it first time yesterday in my driveway to clean my car, very light, fantastic product.I had a chance to get a dyson again using... 5/5 GadgetGirl - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Awesome!

Is it too much to ask for a vacuum to pick up stray pieces of paper, not to spit dirt out the back, and be light? This one fits the bill. I owned a dirt devil featherlite 9 years ago but after my husband touched it after 8 years, it didn't suck much anymore. Up till then it worked great. So I bought a vacuum that cost triple this vacuum thinking more expensive so it should be a wonderful vacuum. NOT! It didn't work well at all. Wouldn't pick up papers and kept shredding paper over the carpet, wouldn't suck it up. It also kept spitting dirt out the back on hard floors, or at least every direction except up the canister. I had a herniated disc for 10 months, every time I used the expensive vacuum, it was so heavy and bulky it kept throwing my back out more and kept me down for a week in pain. I was so happy to see kohl's had the new improved version of my old featherlite. It works as good if not better than the last one I had. It sucks really well. I have fun watching the dirt starting... 5/5 Jen (Ohio) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Featherlite Ultra Compact Bagless Upright Vacuum, UD40285 (Kitchen) Is it too much to ask for a vacuum to pick up stray pieces of paper, not to spit dirt out the back, and be light? Well worth the money! Best in price range!

OK, first off one of the top reviews says it takes 13 steps to empty. Mine doesn't, it takes TWO! One push the button on top to release the cansiter, two press the button on the side of the canister to open the bottom (over your trash can of course :P). I added pictures illustrating these buttons, plus a picture of all of the dirt! Also, do not expect Dyson fit and finish out of this vacuum. Its in a COMPLETELY different price category. That being said, what it excels at it is being the best vacuum cleaner I have used short of a Dyson. I'll list the pros and cons of this vacuum now; then since the devil (sorry for the pun) is in the details I'll expound on them a bit afterwards.Pros:Suction! Sucks for the $

From an industrial designer's standpoint, it's a pretty decent vacuum for the money. Let's be honest here - this is a cheap vac, I got mine from Target for $39 and I don't expect it to be as quiet, powerful, or well built as say a Dyson. I did expect this to be almost as light as my little eureka stick vac for floors and be almost as powerful as my big Bissel full sized vac on carpet and with attachments for dusting, so with one appliance I can clean my new multi-story house with carpeted stairs more easily. Well it works great as an all purpose vac.Other reviewers have pointed out some other flaws, which I do agree with, but it's understandable, given it's size/price range. It has the basic features and looks of a full sized cyclonic vacuum, only shrunken down to just a bit bigger/heavier than a stick vac. At 7 amps, it has pretty good suction when the filters are clean, but it's small size means you have to clean them more often. That means cleaning the inner hepa filter... 4/5 Phrancis - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Easy Lite Cyclonic Quick Vac (Kitchen) From an industrial designer's standpoint, it's a pretty decent vacuum for the money. Not sure about it yet

Just got this vacuum today. It picks up great. Vacuumed my carpet which had already been vacuumed earlier today by my other vacuum and was surprised at how much more this vacuum picked up. But when the vacuum roller hits the rug, it makes a laboring sound. When it is not making contact with the rug, it sounds normal. Loud but normal. I'm not sure if this is the way it should sound because that means excess labor on the motor and the belts. I called the service center but they told me to bring the vacuum in. I just bought the thing. I don't want to travel miles to get it looked at in the Service Center too.It has on board tools that you attach to the hose but it doesn't come with an Extension Wand so, when you use the hose, (which is very sturdy, I must say) and have to stretch it to reach, the whole vacuum lifted up off the floor. Didn't like that either especially because there is no way to stop the brush from rotating while using the tools. Also, the... 3/5 intanet (New York) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Easy Lite Cyclonic Quick Vac (Kitchen) Just got this vacuum today. I actually meant to buy the other Dirt Devil on this site, the Extreme Quick which got all the great reviews. I accidentally got this one instead, but when I tried it out, it worked FANTASTIC. I have a small apartment and a cat, so hair is a problem. I was amazed how much this cheap little vacuum picked up. I have a full sized Bissell that has stopped working - doesn't pick anything up any more. The only time the Dirt Devil seems louder than any other vacuum is when I'm using the hand tool. That does get rather loud. Other than that, I didn't even notice a difference in noise from the Bissell. Very easy to empty the cannister, much easier than the Bissell. I would caution first time users to stop and check how full its getting though, because this thing picks up so much crap it's real easy to go over the max fill line. If you go too far over ( like I did), you're going to have stick your hand waaaaay up in there to pull out stuff that gets lodged way at the top. Powerful Vacuum

I really like this vacuum cleaner! It picks up hair, dust, dirt, particles, everything!Pros:the suction, very powerful, 12 ampseasy to clean dirt basketHEPA filter, with a removable fabric piece for easy cleaningsturdy constructiongood hosecleans the whole house well, even with dog hair and two cats worth of furEven though I gave this vacuum 5 stars, nothing is really perfect.Cons:the power cord is shorter than on my old vacuum, but will reach well enough in each roomthe vacuum cleaner head is OK, the brush and rubber glide don't go completely flat in carpet mode, so it's harder to push on the rug (my old one is better and fits well)the vacuum cleaner head also has little wheels on it that make it glide faster, but on my tile, the grout made those wheels swerve and miss spots if not carefulthe wand was not what was shown in the picture; it came with two plastic rods, but they work fineEven... 5/5 Kitty - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Vac!!

0 5/5 Keith S. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Got this vac recently and got to try it out, it works great, and seems to be pretty good quality. Also the bin is real easy to empty, and the retractable cord is handy. The seller was great and vac was mint-in-the-box. Very pleased! Thanks!**update: Vac is still working great. Was able to vacuum under low furniture and bed with no problems. I thought the cord might be too short but it is actually longer than my previous vac, and is plenty. The suction is incredible and the bin is big enough to do my whole house before it needs emptying. The slots on the vac let you store the wand on it so it stands up by itself, a really neat feature I like. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 28, 2012
